It seems difficult or even impossible to think of a future harvest in the early stages. We’ve hardly begun the spring season, although we’ve had some mild temperatures and relatively little wintry precipitation. Yet I’m getting my beds ready for a harvest. It starts with a tiny seed planted in the soil –

…then re-planted when the natural leaves appear.

Finally the plants are put out in the sunshine for a little bit each day to acclimate tender foliage to the sun’s rays.
Eventually, the hardy plants make it into the garden. It’s hard to believe that in a few months, there will be a harvest of fresh vegetables from such tiny little seeds. I see it every year, and every year it’s a miracle.

So it is with the dreams and goals in our lives. They begin as tiny seeds of ideas. We then try to plan it out, maybe engaging in a few endeavors to see what will happen. Once we see a little bit of growth, we try something bigger. And then it gets put into the major garden of our lives where we nurture it all season long, trying hard to keep the weeds of life from choking out a dream. And if we’re faithful in the garden with the watering, the hoeing, and the praying, we see a harvest.
It may seem to be taking forever for a tiny seed to make a full plant with fruit to bear. If we’re patient and allow God to manage the growth, we can anticipate something beautiful in our lives.
