Welcome Fall! It’s hard to believe we’re now in the final season of another year. A season of cool breezes, the aroma of pumpkin spice and apple cider in the air, enjoying the mountains arrayed in color, then leaves falling and days raking. And of course, hikes in the beautiful woods (I usually backpack several times during this time of year).
Last year we did the autumn season in style in the Smokies and savored every moment with hikes in the woods, a drive around Cades Cove, and even a helicopter ride!

For a change this year, I decided to plant some fall veggies. Unfortunately the deer ate most of them until we were able to put up fencing.

The lettuce didn’t make it, but I do have turnips growing that I planted in early August. So I’ll have turnip greens and maybe baby turnips, and some kale. It’s the first time I’ve ever done fall vegetables. But I do have a couple of hearty butternut squash this year and did harvest some summer produce. I wish I had more pumpkins for the fall season, but the pumpkin plants only produced two tiny ones over the summer.

We are looking forward to the Graves Mountain Apple Harvest Festival that we attend every year, which celebrates with cooking up apple butter in a big cauldron over a wood fire, great apple cider donuts, and of course, selecting a nice variety of apples.

So how do you celebrate the fall season? Leave me a comment and you might see it on my Readers of Lauralee Bliss Facebook page!
